Codex Mortis on Steam Deck - Invalid Platform

Visiting the Steam Store on the Steam Deck to try and play Codex Mortis was something we were genuinely excited about. After spending time with the demo on desktop, it quickly became clear that this is the kind of game that feels perfect for handheld play — immersive, tense, and highly addictive in short sessions.

Unfortunately, when accessing the game’s store page directly from the Steam Deck, we were met with an error message stating “Invalid Platform.” Rather than an install option or even a compatibility notice, the store effectively blocks access entirely, preventing Deck users from taking things any further.

This is particularly disappointing because Codex Mortis feels like a natural fit for the Steam Deck. The slower, atmospheric pacing combined with the demo’s core mechanics makes it ideal for portable play, especially with headphones. During our time with the demo, it proved to be engaging and hard to put down — a strong indicator that the gameplay loop works extremely well.

What’s confusing from a player perspective is the lack of clarity around the restriction. The Steam Deck is essentially a handheld PC, and many indie titles run well on it even without full optimisation or official verification. Even a “not fully supported” status would be preferable to a complete platform block, especially for players willing to experiment.

There’s clearly interest in playing Codex Mortis on the Steam Deck. The demo alone has already shown how compelling the experience can be, and being unable to access it on Deck only increases anticipation. With handheld gaming continuing to grow, opening the door to Deck users could introduce the game to a wider audience eager for dark, immersive indie titles.

For now, we’re left waiting — but very eager. Based on how good and addictive the demo already is, Codex Mortis feels like a game that truly belongs on the Steam Deck, and we’re hoping support arrives sooner rather than later.
