I was excited to try Sainsbury’s 12 Breaded Halloumi Fries. I’ve always enjoyed halloumi, and the idea of it in a fry form with a crispy breaded coating sounded like a fun twist. After trying them, I can honestly say these did not disappoint.
The packaging is straightforward and functional, with clear details on the serving size and cooking instructions. Inside, the fries are individually coated in a golden, crispy breadcrumb shell. The portion size is great for a snack, appetizer, or as part of a main meal. The fries are easy to prepare either bake them in the oven or air fry them, and they’re ready in just 9 minutes. I opted for the oven method to keep them a bit lighter.
When the fries came out of the oven, they looked golden and crunchy, with a satisfying crispiness to the breadcrumb coating. The smell was appetizing, with that familiar savoury fragrance of cheese and a hint of herbs from the breading. The texture of the fries was spot on the coating was crunchy and slightly crispy, and the halloumi inside was soft and chewy.
The flavour is where these fries shine. Halloumi is a naturally salty cheese, and when combined with the breadcrumbs, it creates a wonderful balance of savoury and satisfying flavours. The breading complements the halloumi perfectly, adding a little extra texture and flavour without overwhelming the cheese’s distinct taste. There’s a slight herbaceous note in the breading, which adds a nice depth to the overall flavour.
The halloumi itself holds up well. It stays firm and chewy, which is exactly what you want in halloumi. When you bite into the fries, the cheese doesn’t melt away, but stays intact, offering that signature squeaky, satisfying texture. It’s not as gooey as other cheeses, but that’s part of its charm. It’s ideal for those who enjoy a cheese with more bite and a bit of saltiness.
I paired these fries with a side of sweet chili sauce for dipping, and it was the perfect match. The sweet, tangy heat of the sauce balanced out the saltiness of the halloumi and added an extra layer of flavour. They’d also be great with other dips like tzatziki, garlic mayo, or even a simple tomato salsa for a more Mediterranean twist.

Overall, Sainsbury’s 12 Breaded Halloumi Fries are a fantastic snack or appetizer. They’re easy to prepare, full of flavour, and offer a fun way to enjoy halloumi in a new form. They’re perfect for sharing at a party, adding to a grazing board, or simply enjoying as a treat.
