When I opened the tin of Dobble Harry Potter, I immediately recognised the familiar circular design of the cards, but with a magical twist: each card displays eight different symbols drawn from the wizarding world of Hogwarts and the broader Harry Potter universe. The set comes with 55 cards and supports 2-8 players aged around six and up.
As I played, the game proved to be exactly what it promises — a rapid-fire frenzy of observation, speed and matching. On each turn I tried to spot the one symbol that appears on both a card I have and a card in play. The Harry Potter theme adds real charm: I found myself spotting familiar icons like wands, Hogwarts crests, characters and magical creatures. The symbols are various sizes and orientations, which makes spotting the match trickier than it looks.
What I really liked is how the game works equally well with younger players and adults: my teenage nieces were engaged, my partner was enjoying it, and even younger children (age five to six) can get in on the fun. It’s very travel-friendly too: compact tin, minimal space needed, quick rounds.
On the downside, if you’re not familiar with the Harry Potter imagery, you might end up describing vague objects (“that thing with the wings”), which slows down the pace. While the symbols are clear if you know the theme, they can be confusing otherwise. Also, when played by only two players the pace can feel less chaotic and perhaps a bit underwhelming compared to a larger group.
Overall, I found it to be a fun, fast-paced, family-friendly observation game with a strong theme and a very high replay-ability.
Dobble Harry Potter is a vibrant, fast-paced matching game that merges the proven mechanics of Dobble with the magical world of Harry Potter. It’s ideal for families, travel and mixed-age play, especially if you’re a fan of the wizarding world. If you’re less familiar with the theme or prefer deeper strategic games, it may feel light — but as a fun and quick filler, it’s excellent.
