JPL Peking Express Carterton

I recently ordered from JPL Peking Express in Carterton for a midweek treat, and overall, it was a average experience. First off, the service really stood out – the lady who answered the phone was incredibly polite and friendly, which made placing the order quick and easy. It’s always nice to deal with someone pleasant, especially when you’re ordering takeaway after a long day. The delivery itself was impressively fast – the guy was also polite and friendly!

I ordered a selection of dishes to try a bit of everything: egg fried rice, chicken satay on skewers, chilli garlic prawns, and beef in chilli sauce. Starting with the chicken satay skewers – they were excellent. The chicken was really tender and well-cooked, and the satay sauce was just gorgeous – rich, nutty, and full of flavour. It coated the chicken perfectly and wasn’t overly sweet like some can be. I’d definitely get those again.

The egg fried rice was pretty standard – nothing out of the ordinary, but a decent portion and cooked well. It served as a good base to go with the other dishes. The chilli garlic prawns were another highlight for me. They had just the right amount of heat, with a lovely punch of garlic that didn’t overpower the dish. The prawns themselves were fresh and juicy. I really enjoyed those.

The only real disappointment was the beef in chilli sauce. I was hoping for something bold and spicy, but unfortunately it was quite bland. The beef didn’t taste of anything and the sauce lacked flavour – apart from a slight chilli kick, it didn’t really taste of much at all. It just didn’t stand out compared to the other dishes, which was a bit of a shame.

The bill also came to £28, normally at other places for this spend we get free prawn crackers but unfortunately we didn’t with JPL.
