I had the pleasure of dining at The Blue Boar in Witney recently, and what an absolute delight it was! From the moment I walked in, the ambiance struck me as the perfect blend of historical charm and modern comfort. The warm greeting by the staff set the tone for what turned out to be a fantastic evening.
Let’s talk about the food – because that’s where The Blue Boar truly shines. I opted for their wood-fired pizza, and I must say, it was impeccable. The crust had that authentic charred taste, which I love, providing a crispy yet chewy texture that can only come from a properly fired oven. The toppings were fresh, generously applied, and the balance of flavours was spot on.
But it wasn’t just the pizza; the entire menu seemed thoughtfully curated. The Mediterranean-inspired dishes, from the fresh pasta to the risotto, spoke of quality ingredients and skillful preparation. And for someone who enjoys a good drink with their meal, their selection did not disappoint.
The service deserves its own applause. Every staff member I interacted with was friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about my dining experience. It’s rare to find such a level of professionalism combined with a personal touch.
The atmosphere inside, with its cosy seating by the wood burner and the quirky décor like the boar’s head on the wall, made the evening feel special, like stepping into a little piece of Witney’s history but with all the comforts of the present day.
And as if the evening couldn’t get better, the dessert – a sweet ending to a perfect meal. While I didn’t go for the breakfast, hearing that they offer an extensive cooked-to-order menu in the morning makes me want to book a stay in one of their rooms, which I’ve heard are as uniquely charming as the restaurant itself.
